 Objectives

Experimental Validation of Model in BIOS :
Performance of experiments in BIOS to validate the integrated model in confined spacecraft analogue environment.

Description of work and role of partners

WP 5.1 Experiments design
Leader: IBMP
The experimental protocol will defined by the microbiologists (IBMP, UEF and SCK•CEN) together with the facility manager (IBP) and the modelling experts (VTT). The experiment timeline, duration, the particle aerosol dispersion procedure (location, aerosol method, concentration), and the sampling procedure and sample analysis procedure will be defined.

WP 5.2 Physical validation Leader: VTT
An aerosol of inert particles will be introduced into the BIOS facility, and sampling will be performed according to the protocol defined in WP5.1. The predicted and measure aerosol dispersion will be compared. The results obtained will enable to validate the accuracy of the model with the experimental output.

WP 5.3 Biological validation Leader: IBMP
A defined aerosol of bacterial strains will be introduced in the BIOS facility, and sampling will be performed (according to the protocol defined in WP5.1). SCK•CEN will assist in the further molecular characterisation of the micro flora collected during the experiments. The results obtained will enable to validate the model with the experimental output.
